Dermal Needling Skin Plumping

Collagen-Induction Therapy

Derma Pen/ Dermal Needling is a powerful technique that can produce long-term results, without the use of harsh chemicals or surgery. The process makes use of many fine medical-grade needles, which create micro-punctures in the surface layer of the skin. Doing so encourages healing factors in the body, including the production of elastin and collagen in the skin

The process naturally promotes improved skin appearance by increasing collagen production, increasing fibre elasticity and strength, and producing a thicker tissue layer.

The production of collagen is particularly relevant, as the collagen protein plays a key role in skin strength, plumpness and elasticity. Collagen often decreases with age and due to other factors, like damage from the sun. Dermal needling offers a way to restore that collagen without injecting anything new into your body.

Because the therapy focuses on promoting your body's natural responses, it is suitable for any skin type. Sophie is also able to adjust the treatment to account for individual differences.

The therapy doesn't remove any skin and the punctures made are beneath the skin's surface. This means that recovery is typically fast, often just a few hours.

Skin Plumping System

This skin plumping system is a superficial dermal filler that is normally only available to appearance medicine doctors. However, it can now be safely administered by trained beauty therapists in selected clinics via dermal needling.

It provides better dermal needling results than any other product on the market.

The Plumping System:

  • Is a medical grade hydrophillic filler
  • Uses advanced monophasic and reticulated technology of non-crosslinked stabilised hyaluronic acid (which naturally occurs in the body and breaks down with aging)
  • When used in combination with dermal needling, the system induces a long-term effect on collagen and elastin regeneration while replacing lost volume and hydration to reverse visible aging.

The system helps to replenish the loss of hyaluronic acid due to ageing, to improve hydration, tone and elasticity of the skin. In doing so, it also acts as a hydrophillic filler to reduce small lines like crow's feet, smoke lines or smile lines.

The Role of Hyauronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a natural compound in the skin. It helps to maintain moisture, firmness and elasticity.

Hyaluronic acid levels are often decreased through factors like intensive sun exposure and the ageing process. As a result, the skin becomes thinner and drier, while losing suppleness and elasticity. Wrinkles and lines appear, while volume decreases.

This decrease starts to become evident when people are in their 30s and 40s. The process also decreases collagen, which leads to further negative impacts on skin appearance.

Because of this pattern, hyaluronic acid  needs to be replenished in order to improve skin appearance.

The Role of Glycerol

Glycerol has a cosmetic use and also helps in the medical treatment of skin conditions. The compound is a humectant, which means that it attracts water and helps maintain hydration on a intercellular level. This ensures that the skin is moist and supple to the touch. Glycerol also promotes skin cell maturation and can help to heal wounds.

The combination of these two natural substances (in stablised forms) offers an extremely safe alternative to more invasive treatments.

Dermal Needling is a non-surgical technique designed to stimulate the production of collagen. It offers a safe and effective way to:

  • Decrease acne scarring
  • Restore strength and elasticity in the skin
  • Reduce pore size
  • Soften wrinkles and fine lines

Healing time is minimal and the treatment can be safely repeated to ensure best possible results.

The Plumping System can:

  • Reduce the appearance of superficial lines
  • Add volume, rejuvenate and hydrate your skin
  • Improve skin tone and elasticity

Frequently Asked Questions

Is It Painful?

Clients tend to feel the sensation of the needles, but there is not any associated pain. A topical anaesthetic is applied to ensure that the process is comfortable.

Are There Side Effects?

Because dermal needling does not rely on chemicals, it does not have the normal risks and side effects associated with invasive treatments. Your skin will often be back to normal in a few hours.

Immediately after treatment you may experience a mild redness in your skin, along with slight skin sensitivity. Follow the provided aftercare instructions to protect and treat your skin.

How Soon Can I Expect Results?

You will often notice some improvement to your skin's appearance soon after your first treatment, although it may take several treatments to notice more dramatic appearance improvements.

Visual appearances include skin that is smoother, softer and looks younger. Fine lines and age spots will often be diminished, while acne scars become less obvious. The results are typically more dramatic after multiple treatments. Sophie can advise you about the best treatment regimen for your specific needs.

It takes time for the full results to be evident, regardless of the number of treatments. This is because the treatment stimulates the production of collagen. As such, results can continue for weeks and even months after treatment.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

The precise number of treatments will vary based on factors like skin conditions, age and desired outcomes. In most cases, around 3 to 4 treatments are sufficient, with intervals of approximately 3 to 4 weeks between each treatment.
